How much…are you worth?
Child, are you worth all the work you’ve done,
Where you put a drop of your soul into every blood, sweat, and tear that rolled out?
And if you don’t make it into that Ivy League, tell me, what’s the fallout?
Mom and dad, are you worth all the words that you shouted out?
In a language so foreign, but so needed for rent and for ends to meet?
In a language whose land’s riches plucked you out of the land of the native tongue you speak?
Ancestors, are you worth all the wars that were fought?
By the leaders who used bombs and guns, after they used arrows and rocks?
